About Fordell Homestead
Situated along a private country access way 10 km from Whanganui stands the peaceful 1880's Fordell Homestead bed and breakfast.
The homestead is set in lovely gardens with many native trees which encourage wood-pigeon (kereru), tui's, fantail and rosella's just to name a few.
The rooms in the homestead are made up of the three guest bedrooms which are all upstairs (no lift) and shown under the 'Accommodation' tab, an upstairs reading room leads onto a balcony overlooking the garden, a lounge room with TV and the dining room, where guests may make a hot drink.
Guests are welcome to enjoy the gardens, wander through the orchard (pick a piece of fruit), find a quiet seat to read or absorb the peace and tranquility or maybe have a picnic on the lawn.
Breakfast options are continental (includes juice, organic cereal, fresh seasonal fruit salad, natural pro-biotic yoghurt, muffins or croissants, toast & jam, coffee or tea) and may be taken in the dining room or on the verandah. A cooked breakfast is available on request for an additional cost. Our focus is on good healthy food and where possible will be grown and made at the homestead. We can cater for gluten free and vegetarian guests. Dinner is available by request.
There are resident chickens in charge of providing free-range eggs, a shy cat and some 'on loan' sheep assigned to grass maintenance.
